Well, I got my BS almost two weeks ago and this weekend will be my first days off to use it.  I am seasoning it now and I have a question about the smoke???  Is Smoke supposed to come out around where the generator attaches to the box??

SteveBird

Hey Leeroy.

I had smoke coming out from in back of the thermometer, plus through the bricket feeder, so there you go.

I had the vent pretty well closed though.

I've only used mine BS once but I bet smoke coming out of everything is a norm. [:D]

Leroy and Steve if you open the vent a little maybe a 1/4 the way open it will only smoke out of the vent.[;)]

Mike's got it right. The smoke has to escape somehow & will follow the path of least resistance.

On a related note, every now & then, when the wind is coming from just the right direction to roll over the roof & come down, a large amount of smoke will pour out of my generator. I freaked the first time I saw it happen, but after I understood why it happened, I kind of look forward to seeing it. Kinda like the Northern Lights.

Ya think next time I check into a hotel & they ask "Smoking or Non?" they would mind?

My 2 cents worth is do whatever you can to prevent the smoke from coming out of the generator. Just adjust the vent until it stops. After that you can adjust it more if needed. The smoke is an oil that will tar up after awhile.

Agree with Olds and Chez--no harm done if it comes out the door or generator, but it saves you clean up if you adjust the vent to keep the smoke coming only out the top [:D]
