One of my buddies retired and had just splurged on the car of his dreams - a Mercedes 500 convertible.

On his first road trip to show off the car to his relatives a deer ran out onto the highway and smacked his baby on the side. No damage to my buddy, but the deer was road kill.

About a month later after his car was repaired he took another road trip to visit other relatives and, yup! another deer got him!!

We now call him the "Deer Hunter". We also mailed him a fake letter from the SPCA with a warning that if he killed another deer they would prosecute him!

My brother is a cop and worked in a rural area for a couple years. He shot more deer in 2 years than my father has in 78 years alive. He can't prove they work but says he never once saw a car hit a deer that had the deer whistles mounted on them. They just stick on. No electronics, wiring or anything else needed. If they work great, if not, only cost about $5 each. Not much to lose, everything to gain.

PP;
I believe they do work, but the problem I found is that because you have to place them on the bumper, they often get plugged up, so you have to remember to periodically clean them out. I had an electronic one that mounted on the roof, that worked great. The ones that use forced air to create the noise, need to be on the bumper, if you mount them on the roof or side view mirrors, the noise is projected too far behind the vehicle for a deer in front to hear it.

Thanks for the replies.

I have tried those whistles before but with the angle of the bumper on her car they dont get the air flow. She drives a Pontiac Sun Fire and the nose is shaped like a bullet with nothing flat to mount them on.

Taby is still a little paranoid drivin at night, always seein things moving and wantin to hit the brakes.

With this warm weather and all the snow meltin we see deer EVERY WHERE!

Nebraska is workin on some new seasons for deer huntin just to thin the heard.

You can still see hair stuck in the trim and along the back of the window.

812,
So glad to hear Taby's OK.

I couldn't find the exact type of electronic one I had, but it was very similar to the one I linked to. I've never used this model, so I don't know if it will work as good as the one I use to have. Also the one I had you could wire it directly to the battery; it came with a wire that had an in line fuse.

They have a few models to choose from.

If you hit a deer in the state of Texas, the state pays your deductable.

Most Insurance Company's just waved you paying deductable instead of having the State pay it.

It's happened to me twice, Once in Downtown Austin.

Glad to hear noone was hurt.  Well, I'm sure the deer didn't fair too well in this meeting.  Good thing it wasn't a moose and a really good thing that she was already slowing down.

Glad Taby only had some feelings hurt. Bet she remembers this incident next deer season.

CRG, Thanks for askin.

Bruce is doin GREAT, back to his ornery old self again.

PT is gettin him back in shape too, he's lost weight and gettin some muscle back, cant even see the beer gut anymore.

I still cant get over seein him wearin tennis shoes though.  ::)

He has even started goin back to the old tavern and hangin with the boys again.

Now that the weather is gettin nice he is actually lookin forward to goin out for his walks, he was walkin 5 miles a day before the heart attack.

The day he had his attack he did his 5 miles and when he got home he could never catch his breath, feeling light headed and noshes. Thats when Sandy said "Were going to the ER" Good thing she was watchin after the old man other wise he would have tried to wait it out and we all know were that would have taken him.
