Over the weekend heard an interview on the radio with a guy from the British BBQ Society, an organisation I didn't even know existed.  From what I could tell, they are getting a UK competition circuit established for us folks over here that subscribe to the "low 'n slow" philosophy.

Anyway, for any Brits or Expats in Britain (like myself) here is a link to their website.

Thanks for the link EC, about time something like this took off on this side of the pond.  :)

Will reply to your PM this evening, been working on a lobster boat recently in addition to my day job and not had enough hours in the day to do much else!  :'( ;)

Last year I talked to a team from Britain that was competing in a KCBS event at Lake Placid, NY. They were fascinating, because of how they have to travel they can't bring their own equipment with them so sponsors and other teams will help them out by lending them equipment. It has to be a challenge when at every event you are cooking with different equipment. I never did find out their name or how they placed.

I think the "movement" is catching on over here.  I've been toying with the idea of buying myself a Traeger, and the UK dealers actually won Grand Champion at the Jack Daniels Invitational in 2004... their team was called "Mad Cows BBQ"...

Me too!! I also read their article about Brits on tour in the US and their success in that tournament.  :)

On another note, Can't wait for the US vs England World Cup game.  ;D

Any brits in Dallas want to bet a brisket on the game? Haha.

Go USA !!!!!

Yea I know it's soccer but couldn't help myself on this one. Yes, I like american football and have even won my fantasy league. Sleeper rookie  - Dez Bryant gonna be huge.

Here is the list of the teams that participated in the Lake Placid event last year. If you recognize the British team let me know. I wish I was more alert that day and got more information from them.

Not sure I would bet on the England team, they have a habit of being able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in the important games!!  ;) :D

Just realize, if you win the bet the brisket you receive may be boiled.

You got it. Remember they are working on borrowed equipment. The only cooking devices I saw that they had were a couple of Weber Kettles.

Here is how they did in ribs (the rest of the results were not posted correctly) so I'm not sure how well they did in chicken and pork.

Up until a few years ago BBQ in Britain meant a few incinerated sausages and burgers cooked to the consistency of ice hockey pucks, things have moved on massively in just a few years and it is mainly down to people learning off the Americans both in terms of equipment and food. Now we just need the weather of say Florida.  ;)

It is great that some Brits are travelling to the US and taking them on at their own game, much like the US football...... sorry soccer team taking on England.

Shame we couldn' t all get together and have a few beers, some great food and watch the game although I am not sure I would bet on the outcome!!  ::)

I'm getting a little worried, because you people across the pond (Big River) are getting good at it.

Bet on the outcome, against the Brits ?  Well that's a good IQ test, or a preliminary qualification for a Darwin Award.

That's here in my backyard and not only have I gone up several times for a great weekend, but I've helped some buddies on two local teams that have won (or placed) in chicken or the rib category in the amateur side of the competition. Along with the Whistle Stop competition here in Huntsville, Al.
