I put an 8# butt on last night at 6:30 PM. Did 3 hours smoke and then went to bed at roughly 12:30 am. everything was cooking at 225 degrees and fine. Got up at 6:30 am today and the power was out. Butt was cold to the touch inside the box. IT didnt even register the min of 140 on my thermometer. Power is back on and butt has resumed cooking. Should I throw it out?

I would..     That's a long time outside of the safety '40s'.  (below 40° or above 140°)

Unfortunately I have to agree with STC.  I wouldn't chance it.

I am in the better safe than sorry camp as well

Yes I would agree with everyone else on this issue.

Sorry but I would toss this one and start again...

Me, I would toss it or give it to my in-laws but that is a whole different story.

Sadly, I too agree with the toss it camp.

Everyone is spot on. Toss it in a bag and leave it on the door step of your power co. Start it on fire and ring the bell.  :D ;)
Bummer of a loss but like all the folks said better safe than sorry.

Edited so as not to raise any question. When in doubt throw it out.
I like to walk threw life on the path of least resistance. But sometimes the path needs a good kick in the ass.
