I DVRed Bobby Flay's return to Ireland show the other day and watched it this morning.  Great show.  He and his daughter visited a famous Irish smoker and tried his smoked salmon which they raved about.  He also talked about his smoked oats.  I never thought about smoking oats.  (well, maybe in the '60's....but that's another story for another time!!!)   ::) ::) ::)

Anyone ever try to smoke oats or other grains.  Wonder what smoked coffee would be like???

I saw that show too. I can't imagine what smoked oatmeal would taste like. I'm sure there are other uses for oats where it would make perfect sense.

I took note of one comment that the guy made while he was loading another batch of salmon into his walk-in smoker, and that was that the right amount of smoke is an amount you can see through. Thought that was interesting.

A couple of weeks ago I read on here that someone smoked coffee and sugar to put in the coffee and he liked it.  Search for it and I'm sure you will find it.

There are a few members that have smoked barley, oats and other grains for their home brewed beer; I don't have time to search this morning.

Also a few that have smoked coffee. Here is one method for smoking ground coffee.

I believe they use oats in Haggis so if you make your own it might be interesting.

Why would anyone make their own Haggis on purpose? :D ;)

If you don't think about what goes into it, it's pretty good - after enough single malt.
