When I cook it usually involves beer... Seriously tho, I like to keep things simple, I got the original, no PID, no mods yet, (prolly will put in a second element), it works great; I personally couldn't see any advantage to spending the extra $$$ for the digital.

If I could do it again I'd buy the original and spend the extra money on a PID.  I think it would cost about the same or maybe a little more.  Either way, from what I read, the PID is worth it's weight in gold.

If you want to do sausage and jerky or if you add a second element you probably want a PID even if you have a DBS. The PID and OBS cost about the same as a DBS.
The only advantage for the DBS is the larger size if you get the 6 rack DBS.
If you don't need the extra space  y vote is the OBS and PID.
