At local grocery market

In Pork fresh meats area.  Is a product from Hatfield Quality Meats
http://www.hqm.com/products/know-your-cuts-of-pork.htm

Now in the pork roast area, there is a store sale sign that is labled Pork Shoulder Picnic Roast at a price of $1.98

However looking at tha packaging of the Pork Roasts, few say Picnic Roast but a lot of them say just Pork Shoulder Boneless Roast  (Picnic is not on the label).  Where as some hat "Picnic" on the label.  This label is from Hatifled, not from the Grocery Store.

These are small 4 to 6 lb, boneless roasts, wrapped in a net.  They are small and Fat Cap (or fat coering is varied.  Many of these have little fat.  None show a rind at all.

Are these good enough to consider Boston Butt for making Pulled Pork?

Any tried these Hatfield roasts before?

Johnny,
The shoulder butt is what your after. The picnic could be used but I think the boston butt has more meat on it. HTH

Hi Johnny,

Bassman is right--the picnic portion is closer to the hoof, while the butt portion is closer to, well, the butt.  Ask the store butcher because sometimes they sell both the picnic and the BB at the same price, but the flavor and meat yield will be slightly better with the Butt portion than with the Picnic.

Thanks guys, I figure that on the difference on the type of cut.  I am just curious if anyone has used the Hatfield roasts before..

Its frequently in New Jeresey, PA, MD, and VA.  I do not know if they are in other areas.

CAREGO, thanks.  that's what I was looking for.  I have seen many with a little amount of fat but a few others with a good layer.  Maybe one on upper rack from one with less fat....  If I am doing 2 to make a good amount of pulled pork.
