Oldman

Of the 200,000 of his kind that died he was granted a full life. His / their story is still strong. It is a story of truth, belief in all, and courage. He was 85. He is gone today. The world is less from his passing. May 15th, 2004.

While I was not granted the personal reward of meeting him I did meet Doolittle in the earlier 80's. It was at his birthday party at the 94th Aero Squadron, Clearwater Florida. The owner David Talisay flew in a B-25B. It was parked outside the 94th. David was also a bomber pilot from the second world war.

I saw what was then an old man, but with a smile upon his face. I remember his eyes and I believe his tears were for those so long ago lost.

These are the heros of America's yesterday...along with the millions who died in that war.  I shall remember them as long as I can.

Here, here.

Godspeed Mr. Morgan.

A generation like no other commands our rememberance and respect.

That's why I've come to let frustration go when the Olds 98 in front of me is going 5mph under the speed limit. You never know what that guy did for us 60 years ago.

Although I do not wish it upon them, I wish I felt that a future generation would have it in them.

Thanks, Old's & Chez

My father too is a WWII vet.  He is 84 this year, served in the pacific.  Thanks to him and the men and women like him we can all sleep a little sounder at night.  Some how in the face of danger...when the bullets were flying in thier face....instead of going backwards....they went forwards.  I'm only 40+ ...to this day I can only hope...that in the face of such an enamey...I would do the same.  This is not to lesson the efforts and service of our current fighting force.... they too are brave men & women but my father and the men of his age will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart.

Brent,

Tip my hat towards your dad.

Those flyboys took good care of their future back then (and ours)...pops is 78 this year, still flying his 1946 Taylorcraft - I don't understand why the FAA lets him fly, but he passes his annual physicals and he sure loves it!!

Pops was doing dittybop/intelligence for SAC (Strategic Air Command) and TAC (Tactical Air Command) and unfortunately, locked up in a security room/environment, his 22 years only earned him an E5 rating...all he says about his work is we'll never know how close we got to nuclear devastation back in the early 60's.  He's been collecting his pension since 1966 and at least he's getting more now than he did as an E5!!

Hat's off to all of them - Memorial day is upon us!

Year in & year out, I think the most spine-tingling event of the entire experience is when they end the tribute speech, start playing Taps, & the jets fly over. Just kinda takes your breath away but at the same time, causes you to pause & reflect on the true sacrifices.
