Bought and installed the fan mod from Smoke and Stuff. It's a great tool and worked very well......up until yesterday.

Motor completely burnt out. It tripped the GFI that I had the smoker connected too and wiped out smoke/heat cycle with the Auber PID.
Fortunately, the box was already up to 160 when it happened and I quickly heated up some water on the stove and poached the Keilbasa to an IT of 155.
No harm, no foul.

I couldn't spin the blade with fingers. It's seized big time. Anyone else have or had this problem?
Going to look and see if I can get a replacement from Grainger.  :P

Sorry to hear that Sam3....picked my fan up at the same place
question for ya?  when i plug my fan in it takes about 30 to 50 seconds to reach full speed and it was a good install the shaft is centered in the hole
properly just wondering if they all take this long to reach full speed.

It should be full speed immediately. It's a small motor, it should have no problems turning that little shaft.

Mine was doing that when it was cold outside. Now that it has been warm, I haven't had that problem. The hole where the shaft is, is bigger that it should be so it's not touching. Also, Scott from smokeandstuff advised me to check the screws that hold the fan to the housing to make are that they aren't too tight. Whatever that means ???  Like I said more, NO more problems since the weather changed. :).

Actually here are two snapshots of the email for this problem.

Yeah sorry to hear that. Did you look at the back and make sure its not all gunked up?

I moved the smoker when I saw it was going to rain a little closer to my Big Easy. When doing so, I pushed the brown wires up into the fan motor housing. It jammed against the blade inside and the motor overheated, thus tripping the breaker.  :o

I took it all apart last night. made the hole a little bigger where the shaft goes through and secure the wiring below the housing.
It's working fine now.
I never even realized I did it, until I took it apart.

Lesson learned... :P

Glad you got it working. I used some black tie wraps from w_rk ;D to keep all the wires snug and in place inside the box.
