How long should it take the bradley smoker to get to 225 degress when it is about 45 degress outside

mathew2172

This is just the second time useing it the first time it heated up in the same temperature in about 45 min

There are several factors that can affect heating in the Bradley.

One is wind. If there is wind blowing across the top of the vent it can suck out the heat. Try to shield it from the wind and you can close the damper while pre-heating to help in the process.

Ambient temps have an affect for obvious reasons.

And where you are obtaining your temp readings from. The gauge in the door on the original is located in the front/top part if the cabinet. That is further away from the heating element. The temps at the lower rack will be higher than that gauge. The digital has a temp sensor that is located at the back of the cabinet toward the top. Again same issue with the temps being higher at the lower rack. The best way to get your cabinet temps is from a wired/wireless thermometer like a Maverick that can measure cabinet temps. The sensor should be located below the lowest rack of meat.

The amount of meat in the cabinet and the temp of the meat going in can affect cabinet temp and recovery. When adding water to the bowl make sure it is hot so the element is not working to heat it. Also the meat will be absorbing the energy quickly when the meat is first added. The cabinet temp will climb as the meat continues to cook and absorbs less eneregy in the process.

I cant get it to reach temp before putting the meat in, i have a digital version and its been on for a hour and is it 102. i turned the smoke generator on also to try to heat it up but all it is doing is putting out smoke not really heating it up. i know i dont want to close the vent while the smoke is on. should i just use the smoke generator with no pucks in tell help the heat????

Sounds like you might have a loose connection or possible bad heating element. Check all the plugs are properly seated. Look and see if the element is glowing...

I check the heating element and the connections were good and then i turned it back on and cranked it to the high heat i think it is 320. and the element was hot. I will let it heat for about a half hour and see how it goes.

I used the 3-2-.5 method. Used Bad Byrons Butt Rub and instead of putting water in the bowl i used DR Pepper. Man were they good. I brought a rack and a half in for the people at work today and cant wait to see what they say! I think my next ribs im gonna find a recipe for a honey glaze to put on them!
