I want to make up some brats and German sausage and was wondering if I could use pork shoulder instead of a pork butt? Do I need to add any pork fat or will it be OK with just the shoulder meat?
Costco had big bags of pork shoulder so I bought a couple of bags an want to use them up.

The butt is the upper part of the shoulder and is often referred to as the shoulder. The lower part is referred to as the picnic shoulder (less connective tissue and fat). If the two parts are not separated it is called whole shoulder.

You may want to check to see if what you have is the butt portion. A quick call to their meat department will clarify everything.
