Lately everyone's a virgin! It's fun, exciting! I'm an FTC virgin.

What do you think of this idea: Gurney's Seed sells a seedling heater, a flat pad that runs on 110 volt and keeps the temperature 10 degrees above ambient. I bought one for making home made root beer. This usually is a warm weather endeavor, but thought I could stretch the season by placing the brew in an Extreme cooler with the strip on the bottom.

Wouldn't this be beneficial for FTC'ing? At least in the northern climes? Isn't part of the idea of this magical process to keep it in a warm zone for good amount of time?

Dude of Smudge,

I can see you haven't seen enough FTC porn.

The reason for FTC is not to keep it warm, but to allow it to mellow, get juicer, flavor, and help with the falling apart.  One of the  SIDE benefits of of FTC is that it keeps it hot for a long time.  I see no reason to extend it or make it hotter, it won't add to the process or taste of the meat, IMHO.

It's not how much you smoke but how many friends you make while doing it...

Oh Ye of Smudge; Glad to see you tried it and it worked out for you. Just amazing something so simple can make something so good. It still blows people away when I have them over for dinner and I pull the stuff out of the cooler and serve it up. Cooler #1 Hot smoked cooked meat. Cooler #2 iced down cold beer. I do believe DINNER IS SERVED!!![:p] Have a good one Smudge.
