Hi all,

doing/attempting my first pulled pork. Wanted to keep it simple and classic so went with the Renown Mr Brown recipe. Plan to smoke tomorrow. But i ran into an immediate hiccup. I think i need to go back to my butcher. The recipe calls for 8-12lb Boston butt. I have a 4lb boneless butt/shoulder roast.

Should i head back to the butcher and plan to use this for something else? or will this roast work on a smaller scale? If so any words of wisdom on the differences i may encounter, if any at all, trying it out with the smaller roast?

cheers.
SNS will.

It'll work.    Just don't plan on a huge yield, as you will probably loose 30-40% (if not 50%) as it breaks down..

Thanks guys, thats good news. Went to the butcher anyway ;) figured why not. Wow, 30-50% of its mass. Thats good to know, i would never have suspected.

Hey SNS let us know how it turns out and how long etc it took. I am probably going to try a pulled pork of some sort sooner or later, I may not get a huge one to start either.

What did you get from the butcher when you went back?

I'm pretty surprised to hear you lose that much mass too, will have to take that into account in the future!
