Hello from Detroit, well Harper Woods really.  It's just North of Detroit and only one square miles large.  I have a rescued OBS my brother in-law gave me and with the help of this forum I was able to give it a second life.  My thanks to the many great posters on this board.  Without your help I would have not been able to spend $300 on a free smoker :)

LOL!!!
Welcome Detroit, I'm sure not going to be the one to tell you that you could've bought a brand new one for less. That would not be a nice thing to do! ::) ::)
Give a man a beer and he'll waste a day.
Teach him how to brew and he'll waste a lifetime.

Ya I found the same problem ...... sometimes free is very expensive. ???

Tell me about it.  I had to buy all the mods I found reading the forums.  I still need a PID thinking the one for $45 looks good but the one for $185 looks gooder. ;)  Reminds me of the sailboat I got a really good deal on.  From the day I bought it to the day I sold it I think a crack addiction would have been cheaper

Greetings fellow Detroiter!  I'm down here in Belleville, and I have also spent a good deal of $$ on my smoker, but have not yet had the time to finish my project, or smoke one piece of meat  >:(

I should finally have some time these next few weeks to see if I can get everything finished up and start smokin  8)

My project so far is a finished recirc fan and added shelf racks to my 4 rack Black Original smoker.  To do is a custom PID control, cold smoke adaptor, and a modified storage cabinet for safe keeping outside in the elements.  I also want to do the 900W element instead of the dual element.  Looks more substantial then the dual mod.

Reel 'em in boys, they are hooked!    ;D ;D

Fair warning.  It only gets worse from here.

$300 mods.
$1000+ pellet grills.
German sports cars being traded for trailer mounted rigs.

There is no end to the madness!
