Me and my buddy entered "The Open" in K.C. For the first time last weekend.  It was a complete blast and for anyone who enters competitions for fun I highly recommend.  We ended up finishing 200 out of 535 teams overall.  Our 2 best categories were pork butt and brisket.  Finished 78 and 98 respectively.  It was particularly fun to compete against Myron Mixon , and basically all the teams you've seen on BBQ Pitmasters.  We actually finished higher Myron on Brisket and Pork!

My goal was to take pics of the entire weekend, but after a few adult beverages that did NOT happen.

I did manage to take pics of our brisket and rib box, which is proof we were there.

Congratulations, I bet you had a blast. I got to judge chicken at the BBQ on the river in Paducah a couple of weeks ago thanks to Larry and it was a fun deal so I can only imagine how tired and satisfied you are with your placing's. :)

Congratulations! That is quite a feat to beat Myron in brisket. Two nice looking boxes. Looks like a Hollywood cut onthose ribs.

I actually judged sides and desserts, and the open meat.  It was an awesome experience.  Your boxes both look great by the way.

Rib box is short a couple though

At the Royal, the chicken, ribs, pork and brisket come under KCBS rules; which requires a minimum of six ribs, one for each of the judges at the table. There are eight in the box; four in the top row and four in the bottom row.

Thanks for the comments guys.  We take pride in our ribs.  Unfortunately we finished poorly in that category.  We tried to put at least 7 pieces of meat in each box.  6 pieces = 1 piece for each judge + 1 piece for the table captain.  We like full boxes.  The ribs were Hollywood cut so they filled up the box pretty well...  It was a fun time an we'll definitely do it again.

Sorry STLstyle, the fuzzy picture on my phone made it appear as if they're was only four ribs.  I better be careful of what I post or some MCBJ judge may take my judging status away.  Now i'm starting to understand why people keep fleeing from this sight.  Probalby my last comment/Reply.  Don't really care to be corrected by the "Great and powerfull no all"

I like to see a full box, and Hollywood cut is my favorite cut. If there is one thing I hate is a rib that has very little meat between the edge and the bone. Again congratulations, especially for beating Myron in the brisket category.
