Now that I have a new digital smoker I really want to explore the world of smoking,
what would the best type of thermometer be when smoking larger cuts of meat ?
Where would be a good source to purchase such items?
Thanks

Instant read or continual monitoring?

For continual monitoring with a very good range the Maverick ET-732 is a popular one around here.

For an instant read the Thermapen is one of the top choices.  Just don't ask anyone on here which color is the best.   ;D

x2, here is a link to a post by a forum member who owns yard and pool and is offering a special until tomorrow on the ET 732 http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=33500.0

I think continual read, this type you would put through the vent and insert into the meat and set the gauge on the top of the smoker??

Then you want the Et 732 above if you want to be able to remotely read the temps from inside, I use a cheaper non remote version that I have to walk out to the smoker to check the temps which is fine for me, besides I'm cheap. I may eventually get a remote to add to my toys. :)

Just tried to order the Maverick from Yard and Pool but they don't ship to Canada I guess.

You may need to PM Begolf25 about the Canadian shipping, this is what he posted on Canadian shipping in the original post.

We do a lot of business with our friends to the north and we appreciate all of it. Unfortunately, with the shipping rates the way they are we cannot offer Free Shipping to Canada. A 1lb package to Canada via USPS Priority Mail now costs $28.25 for us to ship. That is too much for us to eat on almost any order. But you can still take advantage of the discounts above. That should help offset the shipping costs a bit.
