E-1 Error and smoker shut off

First off I want to say how pleased I have been for the past five or so years with my Bradley smoker(s). I tried charcoal, propane, wood chip, horizontal, vertical in just about every combination available and the Bradly's ability to reproduce a recipe reliably is in my opinion unmatched. I was so impressed with the first four rack analog smoker I purchased that within a year purchased the digital version and haven't looked back. But I have experienced a problem . . .

I was preparing the digital smoker for four picnic shoulders (8-lbs apiece) and when I plugged in the unit the wood shuffle froze half way through a cycle. I removed power, cleaned around the shuffle and when I reengaged the smoker it will begin operation but as soon as it goes to advance a biscuit it shuts itself off. This also occurs if I manually advance the unit. I powered up my analog model and experienced the "continuous biscuit feed" problem that other people have experienced. Needless to say it was a long frustrating (and cold) night sleeping in the garage on a lounge chair with an alarm clock adding a biscuit every 20 minutes.

I'm certain you'll all be relieved to know my pulled pork turned out fine, but I am having a hard time trying to contact the company for advice/parts. The website has been redesigned since the last time I was on it and I can't seem to find a simple phone number I can call. Am I going to need a new unit, or should I start looking at the new pellet smokers that just rolled out at Cabela's?

Thanks for the phone number and all other useful info. It may well have been only an 'E' error, when the shuttle stuck I unplugged it as fast as possible and only got a glance at the display. I'm afraid I wont have time until next weekend to mess with it, too much homework (back in school at 50 yrs old - what was I thinking?)

You have to go to the USA site. Here is the phone number.

Welcome to the forum glass. I've only had an E-1 one time with the smoker shutting off. I finally figured out that the biscuit loading tube had slipped down far enough in the smoker unit to stop the biscuit advance arm. I pulled the tube up slightly and it's been working fine ever since.

Are you certain the error message was an E-1?  The E-1 typically has to do with the digital model thin sensor wire that runs between the generator and the tower.  Plug and unplug the sensor wires several times at both ends, even reversing where the ends are plugged.  See if that solves your issue.  I doubt that both problems you encountered are related unless you tried to use your analog model generator on the digital tower.  That won't work at all.

Hi TheGlass1;

Welcome to the forum.

You may have two unrelated problems, or they can be related. As pointed out the "E-1" error is caused by a poor sensor wire connection, an "E" error is generally associated with problems of the advance mechanism. Generally if there is an "E" problem the system will shutdown.

The problem that Salmonsmoker pointed out will cause your motor to stop halfway into the cycle then reverse. Or the rails may need to be adjusted. Both of these issues are covered in the link below.
