I was smoking an 10lb pork shoulder and a 6lb brisket Saturday and my smoking biscuits became moist and I lost about 1 1/2 hours of smoking.  I noticed that water was dripping out of the vents of the control unit.  I have the non digital 4 rack smoker btw.  My vent at the top of the smoker was closed down partially but it may have had some film on it causing the smoke to escape but the moisture may have been trapped.  I have used this unit 3 times prior to this time and had no issues like this.  I live in Iowa and the temp was around 28°F with no precipitation, which was the warmest it has been of all my smoking attempts.  Has anyone ever run into this situation?

People much wiser than I will come along, but I think you should have the vent full open.

What is partially closed down? What is this film over the vent you mentioned and why is it there?
My top vent is always wide open. You need to get to moisture out of the smoker and if it is closed off there is no where for it to go. And if you see smoke and moisture coming out of the vents on the smoke generator you have a big problem. you do not want that inside the smoke generator, those vents are to allow air into the smoker not for it to get out. I hope you did not hurt the smoke generator by getting smoke and moisture into it.

I did not have it full open.  When I realized there was a problem I turned it and there was a residue film from the previous time I used the smoker.  I saw this only when I turned the vent.

Smoke residue is normal.  Mine if "stuck" to the open position.  Make sure to keep the vent open and you'll have better results.

Everyone has given you good advice on the top vent, I would only add that you may want to take your SG cover off and look for moisture or smoke damage inside.
