Can everyone taste the smoke?

I had a bunch of extra room in the smoker last week when doing some cheese so I threw in a bad of Hershey's chocolate drops.  These are about the size of a hersheys kiss.

I cold smoked them for about an hour and removed.  I think they taste like a smore.  I brought them to work and of the 4 people who tried them, one couldn't taste any smoke at all, one thought he could taste smoke, and two loudly proclaimed about the smoke flavor the moment they put it in their mouth.

I didn't expect that there would be such a wide sensitivity to being able to taste smoke or not taste it.  Anyone experienced such a thing?

Everyones taste buds are different. Even your diet can change the taste of food.
