Hey Everyone,

I'm trying somthing totally new today...smoking Newfoundland Salt Beef (also known as Navel Beef). Anyone out there tried this yet? For those of you not familiar with Salt Beef, it's beef thats been cured and packaged in a brine (Very salty). Usually you boil this with root vegies for a traditional Newfoundland boiled dinner. Well...I had some that I didn't use in last nights supper so I thought I would try smoking it...pics to come!

Greetings, is this like what called corned beef?  Brisket or Round that is cured.  If so try the Recipe Site and look for pastami recipe from HabanaoSmoker.  What I did this weekend.  Excellent flavor but was a disappointing brisket - very fatty.

Looks great on the outside!

Excellent flavor! = very poor - fatty brisket, was labeled Choice but it was a lie. Anyway even sliced some of it with the grain to try to get a few strips that were not all fat.  Very Very tender so was not a problem. Cheated a bit and started with a store bought corned beef. NOTE to Self: You get what you pay for...
