Food Saver

I am looking at a two Foodsavers.
First is a Model V2860
Second is Professional 3
There is only about $25 difference.

Any reccomendations??????????????

I have a $30 Seal A Meal from Wal Mart that works great for what I need.

Somebody else will have some better advice for you though.

I'm sure you will be pleased with either model. Food Saver website used to have a comparison chart, so that you could compare the features of each side by side. I couldn't locate it. It also looks like they have discontinued a lot of models over the past year. I have the V835L, which I got form Sam's, but that was a model manufactured exclusively for Sam's. It similar to the V875 model, but it's white.

It look like Tilia doesn't own Food Saver any more. It's now owned by Sunbeam and running the company under Jarden Corp.

Sounds like I will be better, or should I say just as well off with a less expensive model. I want a good one but, admittedly it will only get light use.

I have the Pro III and it is a great machine.  Mine gets used every day, at least once for sealing up the coffee beans in one of the canisters.  I personally would not go with anything less.

I agree with you. The bells andwhistles may be better on the more expensive models but I don't see a clear advantage. We use the Foodsaver 2440 on a regular basis and it works great.

I picked up a new V2860 a couple months back and absolutely love it!!!  Great machine.  The SS and black syling was a plus when it came to the wife acceptance factor (W.A.F.) since it matched all of our other kitchen appliances, and the space saving feature really does come in handy for saving some countertop space.

The Pro III model is a few years old now, and I'm not sure it has all the vacuum modes that the newer V2860 does, but I may be wrong.

I picked up my V2860 from Newegg for a pretty good price, btw.

Model V 2480 here was new about a year ago.  Has never let me down with maybe a half dozen uses a week. We only do meat that will be frozen for a while...one thing i do like is the moist and slow option.  ;D

Lil I would have to say you can at least from my personal experience.  I had one of the cheap ones for a while and tossed it.  It did not perform like the professional models, so I will always stick with the higher quality.

Yeah point taken Giz, i suppose it's coz there's only a few models available to us on this side of the pond, and they all seem very good, but you guys have the full range  ;)

Hope my Foodsaver is up to the job?  ;D

I purchased a V2840 with all the extras when they first came out, I thought it's been longer than a year ago though but maybe not. Anyway I love it. It has plenty of power for what I need and then some. we have put 2 beef and a hog through it now along with a deer or two. The only down fall is the counter space it requires unfortunately it sleeps in the pantry till needed and it don't get used as often as I would like for that reason.

I have had my Foodsaver 800 model for over a year now. Gets lots of use and works great. My Foodsaver has easily paid for itself with the money I have been able to save by buying foods in bulk then vacuum sealing them for later use.

I'm always using my food saver. I wish the bags weren't so darn expensive but they work. I freeze everything with the FS, from bagels to pork shoulders. Just be careful with the sharp edges.
