I want to do some smoking this weekend but the forecast isn't looking very good. I am thinking of trying some type of temporary fix in my garage.

On the back wall of the garage I have a window. It sits about 3 feet above the top of my smoker. I have seen many of you use fans with dryer tubes or other items to direct the smoke outside.

My question is can I just take a section of dryer tube, attach it to the top of the smoker and run it out of my window? If this is only temporary can I get by without using any type of fan? Or will too much condensation build up in the tube and run back into my smoker?

All suggestions welcome!

Hi Bryan

I think the condensation would depend on the temps you are operating in. Condesation is formed when warm meets cold so if the temps aren't that bad it shouldn't build much condensation. You can buy cheap 4" in-line duct fans to assist the vent. Here is a link to see one but you can get them all over the place & probably cheaper as well.

If you do add a fan just make sure you don't have either it or the vent directly on the top of the BS because you will probably create a draw that may pull too much air through the tower and could begin to drop your temp. Just space it off the top of the BS an inch or two.

When the weather is bad, if i need to smoke, i place my BS on the bench in my garage, i open the window and the side door and carry on as normal.

Works for me, but the garage smells like a smoke house, mind you that's not a bad thing imo  :D

I would love a dream indoor set up like Mikes (Mr Walleye) but i'll have to make do with the economy version for now  ;)

Thanks for the info fellas. I have a feeling my temporary set-up may work its way into a permanent indoor project..lol I'm kicking myself because a few months ago I replaced the fan above our stove with a microwave and just tossed the fan. What was I thinking?!?!?!

Lil,
I would do the same thing but our garage is attached to the house and my wife doesn't like the Bradley Smoker air freshener that would filter through the house as much as I do :)

Gonna do some ribs this weekend and might try throwing them in the Reveo with some apple juice and other spices before smoking. Interested to see how they will turn out.

its my opinion that it you can get an airtight seal on the bradley with the duct and you vent it straight up and out a window with no bends in the duct and with a vertical termination it will vent just fine depending on the wind...

the duct will heat up and create the chimney effect and will not need draft diversion or power drafting... adding bends in the duct or and venting horizontally into the wind may counter the chimney effect and cause smoke to migrate out by the smoker generator hole...

with a duct booster or fan you need draft relief where the duct is attached to the bradley or it will suck out the smoke from the box...

this photo shows a fan vented duct attached to a box with a slice out of the bottom front... the box acts as a draft diverter which prevents the smoke from being sucked out of the box by the fan... without a fan no draft diverter is needed if you can get that chimney effect going...

I also smoke in my garage, which is connected to the house.  The smell only really seems to waft in when we open the door or the windows to the house.  I just pull the cars out and leave the door and the back door open to let the smoke out.  Works great.
