Cleaning Tip Needed

I have noticed that the puck slide just at the generator side of the puck heating plate is building up a tar like substance. I did not want to get too aggressive with my cleaning so I thought I would ask what you folks are doing. to clean yours. I Think that if I leave it, it will start to prevent the free flow of the pucks.

Hey Sherlock,

I just use a small wire brush to clean mine off.

Yeah a wire brush is ok, i use a paint scraper, you know the ones that come with an interchangable blade, once the burner plate has cooled i scrap all the burnt built up stuff straight off  ;)

Or you could do like the idiot down the road from me has done twice now. He goes to take the smoker to a picnic and forgets the generator was sitting on the roof of the truck while he opened the door. It flies off the truck usually right around 45 / 50 MPH. End of clean up. Go buy another one from Pat. Duh!  :D ;D

I still think the wire brush and scraper is easier. ;)

My wire brush is too "gunky" to use, so I found a pack of wooden  shims on a shelf and started using them to scrape off the heavy stuff, then a few rubs with steel wool, and good as new. I have "wire brush" on my Lowe's list, and have been a few times lately, but I always forget my list, and the wire brush.
