Kind of off topic...campfire/Frier/Smoker Glove

Does anyone know of a glove that would work for campfire cooking/turkey frying and ma be smoking.

I am really looking for a glove that I can cook over an open fire and not burn my hand or catch the glove on fire...hold on to an iron skillet and not burn my hand....and fry my turkey and not risk burning my hand with the oil.

Does a glove like this exist?

I would guess it would need to be 13 or 15 inches long to protect my wrist...be total fireproof as well...Just wondering...

There are several products out there, but my understanding is the best gloves to use for your purpose is fireproof welder's gloves.

Andy,
Orka makes a silicone mitt that is heat resistant to 500°f. They are normally 19.99 each but I heard Costco had them 2 for 19.99. They are like 11" long. HTH.

I have been using a standard set of thick leather gloves...that are blacked..but work great...Problem is...they are just to short with an open fire. When i build fires to cool on...they are hot.

I think I will have to look into welding gloves...that means I can finally get the assetilin(sp) torch I have always wanted!!

The Ove Glove is nice. I have two of them, you can get them at any CVS, Walgreen or Echkarts. They work nice, but there are a couple of problems. They bearly cover my wrist, and they don't protect you from the heat if they get wet. Also they cost $15.00 a piece, the welder gloves may provide better protection at a cheaper cost.

looks like good gloves but sounds like Andy would have to buy the sleeve guards as well. I think he wants to be one with the fire[}:)][:D].

I don't know about fireproof, but what I use when I deep fry turkey is a pair of mil-surp extreme cold mittens. Leather hand parts, nylon up to your elbow, roomy enough to wear a pair of wool gloves inside too.

I'm sure there are better solutions out there but certainly not as cheap!

Firefighter gloves are made from cow hide and some have insulation inside of them with wrist bands usually made of Kevlar to keep ashes and embers from going into the gloves. Only problem with FF gloves are they are not liquid proof and usually so padded it is very hard to do detail work with them on. Okay for ripping walls down or handling hot pieces of wood but not good for picking up small object. There is a glove out there that has either a 12 or 14 inch length and is made by Neo-Perm I believe, that is good up to 500 deg f in liquids, however just the opposite of the FF glove they do not withstand direct flame or hot metals being held in direct contact to the material of the glove for any period of time. If someone is interested in the Neo-Perm glove, you may be able to order them from Universal Propane, in Houston Texas 281-894-8878. Their URL is www.gasgrillwarehouse.com, but I do not think they have the gloves posted or pricing on their web page, you have to call for information.
