This weekend is the 14th ever BBQ on the River Festival.  48 teams competing, 50,000 attendees and 26 TONS or pork and chicken consumed all in the name of charity.  Each team is competing in the contest but more importantly each team is selling their food for a particular charity so 48 charitable organizations in the area benefit.  Last year $475,000.00 raised for the charities!

They started cooking on Wednesday.  The smell of hickory smoke covers the downtown area where I work.  Sorry WTS, not one stick of mesquite in the bunch.

If you can make it, come on down.  BBQ, beer and live music for 3 days.  Who could ask for more?

I have to make one correction to my original post.  I was incorrect about the amount of food consumed.  It is not 26 tons of pork and chicken,  IT IS 60 TONS!!!  Some of the smoking rigs are quite simplistic and some are really elaborate rigs that use the same principle of the Bradley but just on a huge scale.

One other thing, everyone sells out of BBQ every day.

LQ,
I suspect in your area the "Al Gore Police" would shut it all down in the name of global warming. ;)
