Oldman, we know how you feel.  You hang on to that dear friend as long as you can!
June and I had to put our 2-year old Dobie to sleep one month ago tomorrow.  He had progressive kidney disease.  June found out on her birthday that he had just days to live.
We will definitely get another dog - two at one time if we can afford it.
Yes, there is pain when you lose them, or are watching them struggle with an injury or an illness, but the love you receive from them is worth it all.

she passed away in early augest 2006 at the young age of 10  due to cancer of the spleen and  to this day we still miss her dearly along with her personailty,

so olds I can understand your feelings and love for your pet as it pulls at your heart... I was like you when she passed my heart was litterly ripped in two for the longest time...I will pray for you and your family
