You Callyforny folks sure are greedy with your tri tips.  Have really wanted to try tri tips - want to try them in my next competition.  Something different.  Looked all over NashVegas for some of them things to practice on.  Nobody has them - and the only place that would get them for me would only to whole case.  I'm not spending $300 on meat I've never tried before!  Somebody said Whole Paycheck had some at something like $10.00 per lb. and with all the fat trimmed off.  Don't want to do that, but might have to hold my nose!

Ya got a Costco?  I saw some yesterday at our Costco - $3.50 a lb for a pack of 5 or 6 roasts or $4.50 a lb for single packs.  I like my tri-tips attempts.  There's a lot of fat marbled into this roast..

I buy all of mine at Sams Club, about the same price as the ones at Costco.  Its one of my favorite cuts.

My Sams doesn't carry them, but have them at "Special" times - won't tell me what the special times are or won't order them for me.  So's I went down to Costco - having heard that they have carried them in the past - however, the door NAZI would not let me in to look - I am not a member currently.  Would not let me in even to see if they had them and saying I'd join if they did - Be right out - won't stop anywhere else.  I left in a huff saying something about stupid rules and you just lost a customer!  I guess it is a secret club!  I guess I need to send a spy in!  And then swallow real hard and hold my nose if they have them!  I wonder if they have me on tape and I'll have to go in disquise? >:(

Harris Ranch will take online orders for tri-tip, but their meat isn't cheap.  That said, the organization produces some of the best beef California has to offer.  I've never had their tri-tip, but the NY Loin and standing rib roasts are top notch (and worth it for a special occasion).
