MN Pork Loin

I recieved my first smoker from my wife (wonderful lady) and looking forward to smoking up my first recipe over the New Year Holiday.  My question is that is there anything I need to do to the smoker prior to my first smoke?  Thanks for your help and glad to join the crew.

Welcome to the forum MN Pork Loin!

Make sure to season the smoker before your 1st smoke.

And check out the recipe site. Old's Place

Oh, remember to keep the vent open.  ;D

Hi MN pork loin. I am in Inver Grove Hts. You are going to love this site. Warning-it does get addictive but boy does it taste good. There are many good people here to help with problems and recipe's. Good Luck.

As you can imagine I am very wet behind the ears on this, what is the process to season your smoker?  Thanks for your help.

KevinG

It's listed on page 14 of the manual, but in case you don't have it:

Clean all the racks, drip tray, drip bowl and rectangular trays and put back in the smoker.

Fill the bowl 1/2 full of water.

Load the feeder tube with 5 bisquettes.

Open the damper slightly (vent on top).

Press on/off smoker to turn on.

press Wood.

set the Smoker Timer Set for 1 hour

press On/Off Oven to turn on.

Set Oven Temp Set to 150.

Set Oven Timer Set to 1 hour.

Thanks Kevin G - I absolutely can't wait to get home and get started.  Looking forward to being a part of the Club!

Guess I should've asked which model you got - I assumed you got the 6 rack digital (since that's what I've got). The instructions will be a little different if you've got the original or propane.

I have the original, but assume that it is a fairly similar process.

Those instructions are on page 8, similar but controls are different. If you don't have the book I'll post the instructions for that.

Looking at the directions for seasoning, (and this is hindsight) I would preheat the smoker and smoke generator before adding the biscuits  for the smoke time.
