QuoteCompatibility View IE 8
Internet Explorer 8 is a new release and some websites may not yet be ready for the new browser. Click the Compatibility View toolbar button to display the website as viewed in Internet Explorer 7, which will correct display problems like misaligned text, images, or text boxes. This option is on a per site basis and all other sites will continue to display with Internet Explorer 8 functionality. When you click on the Compatibility View button for a site, you don't need to do it again as the next time you visit that site the browser will show it in compatibility mode. If for some reason you'd like to go back to browsing with Internet Explorer 8 functionality on that site, simply click the Compatibility View button again.

You can maintain a list within Internet Explorer 8 for sites that should be displayed in Compatibility View. From the Command Bar, select Tools, and then select Compatibility View Settings to add and remove sites from this list. There are also options for viewing all websites and intranet sites in Compatibility View.

Also the word from my gaming friends and one support person I know is yes 8 running in Compatibility Mode is the same as 7.  Hope this information helps.

Best you can hope for there is incompatibility.  As long as you have the income, she remains pat-able.

Hi Members

As some of you may know there is a problem with the text jumping all over when typing a long
posting.

Here are some of the replies I recieved regarding this.

QuoteI understand there is a fix to insert a meta tag in the  index.template.php file to stop jumping text in long posts as a fix for the IE 8 bug

I understand it a simple case of inserting the second line below under the first line that is already there, is that correct and will this cause any problems with updates?

  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=', $context['character_set'], '" />
   <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

Yes that one seems to be ineffective now. I found the best option was to remove that tag and let people use compatibility mode
because a different fix as recommended by MS was used. Then MS broke it in a service pack. That fix you point out there doesn't work in IE8 any more either according to some reports.
So what do we do, do we have to live with it until MS sorts it out ?

Use Compatibility mode in the browser until MS fix it.

As it stands we will have to wait until MS fixes this.

As Raye has posted running this website in compatibility view seems to correct the problem.

Thanks Raye for your help on this.
