So Cal Husker

I ran through the instructions and seasoned my smoker.  I'm now pre-heating before I put in my first batch of sausage to smoke.  The smoker's been pre-heating for an hour and it's only up to 144-degrees (I'm trying to get to 190).  How long does it normally take the rest of you to get up the desired temp?
Thanks!

Check and re-check the securty of your power connections.

Check to see that your tower element is glowing red.

I usually pre-heat for 30 minutes to get to 250F

Is it cold/windy? - It certainly is not either of those where I am...

It appears that your heating element is not working. Open the door and check if the element is glowing red. If not, unplug all cables and connector and replug them back in.

Here are some tips that may help:

Welcome So Cal husker,

I hope you got your problem worked out? Let us know.

Thanks for all your help!  I checked and re-checked all the connections and everything seems fine.   The heating element is definitely not glowing red. I switched outlets just to be sure that's not the problem.  It's sunny with a slight breeze so i think my weather conditions aren't the problem.  I'll report back in a while and let you know if the different outlet works better.  Also, I'll check the fuse on the oven...

Sometimes the buttons on the digital are hard to push in. Make sure you are pushing dead center on the oven button. Or try plugging the cabinet directly into an outlet. To do that you will need to use a computer power cord, instead of the power cord that came with the smoker.

Got some good news and bad news.  Good news is the heating element seems to be working fine now.  Bad news is my outdoor outlet doesn't seem capable of providing a consistent power source.  Well - may not have lights tonight but in 5 short hours I should have some nice sausages!
Thank you all for your help!

Who need lights when you are smoking?

Candles are good to help set the mood and to find the Bradley too!  ;D

A Coleman lantern works great as well!

Welcome to the forum Husker.  Glad it's working.

Your outdoor outlet should be good; usually 15-20 amp service.  If you max out the smoker (SG and cabinet) it uses about half the power of a toaster.  If you're using an extension cord make sure it's hefty - 16 gauge wire is good; not the $1.99 cords.  And the shorter the better.
