Does the PID control both elements on the second element mod or do you have to rely on the DBS to control one of them?

beefmann

depends on how it is wired, if you  buy  an ssr with a 25 amp rating , you  can run both heaters  off of 1 pid

Thanks for the reply. I think I will start off with the Auber Dual and maybe a fan mod then second element down the road.

GusRobin

If you do the mod as listed on this forum, the answer is yes. The auber PID controls power to the cabinet, both elements are connected to that plug.

Thanks! Which thread is the best one for the dual element mod?

GusRobin

It is located in the recipe section. Here is a link to the specific page that lists the mods.

If you order them somewhere else make sure that they are high temp wire and connectors. The ones I saw at home depot was rated high temp but only good for 175F. Make sure it says for appliance and the temps are rated at least 300F.
I bought my second element at Yard and Pool online.

I would buy a few extra connectors and extra length of wire. It is cheap insurance if you make a mistake. I was glad I did.
As you read the mod instructions you will see where one option is to add a turn off switch for the second element. I did. It is an easy addition and comes in handy if you want to keep lower temps some times (sausage?).
When you are ready to go, feel free to ask for advice.  At lot of knowledgeable and helpful people here.

The Bradley original element draws 500 watts and with the smoke generator on you are pulling an additional 125 watts. When you add the second element to the Ac input of the Bradley you are drawing 1125 watts of power. The Auber (plug-n-play) controller is rated up to 1440 watts at 120 Vac so it is safe to use the PID to control both elements and the SG.
The second link from GusRobin is the mod I did on my OBS. Read all the links he has provided and if you have any other questions please ask.
Good luck!
