A couple of years back several of us got together and sent Hab something for taking care of the recipe site. I can tell you now that when I was taking care of it that it was a real pain in the short. Not to mention the site's download update which he does in August.

I will start this off by giving Hab $100.00. Give what you can even if it is only a thank you card. The last time we raised about 700 - 800 dollars which works out to about 400.00 per year. Send what you can to Raye Minor 5010 4th Street South ST. Petersburg Florida 33705-4919.

Now on to the box trapper.  Somehow Susan's and my E-mail addys got picked up by a bot and passed around. Even with filters we were getting 300 - 400 spams daily. What we did is set up box trapper. What it does is only those on our white list can E-mail us directly. If you E-mail me more that likely you will get a bounce back letter. It will ask if you are a real person. All you  have to do it hit reply-- send without changing the subject line. At that point your address will be added to our white list and your original E-mail will be sent to us. You will only have to do this one time.


I cannot tell the joy of not wading though hundreds of spams, daily, looking for a real E-mail.

Thanks for the consideration and kind words. The members were very generous at the time, and I appreciated it very much, but I don't need any compensation for doing something I enjoy (although I fallen behind in it lately). :)

The time the members donated was more then enough for a lifetime.

This is a good lesson on why not to use the email addy from your provider for signing up on forums and such. Everyone should use a through away account like gmail/msn ect.

Those addys can be spoofed...it is for this reason I don't allow them on the recipe site.

Any address can be spoofed really....and you limit who can join up. I know it's hard to stop the bots, but it is done fairly successfully. I don't know many people these days who would hand over there "real" for a lack of a better word. email address just to sigh up at a forum?

Correct... but keep in mine that my server is a deli server and I'm not on some shared $250.00  per year server.

Also keep in mind that we utilize more than one drive as we are a cleared facility with the Department of Defense. Cyberdude has done a great job of making sure we are not only hacked but to keep the two primary drives apart.  The recipe site is on  vBulletin which is not a free board but one that is maintained through out the year with upgrades.  The reason to purchase and continue to pay for upgrades is obvious.

To date I have yet to receive one spam from the E-mail addy on the recipe site. The only reason we went with boxtrapper is some fool posted my business addy on some board and a bot picked it up.

Other than the Chatroom anyone can use the recipe site if not registered; to include the complete download of the entire recipe site.

I believe I've been  more than fair on this matter.

Gee where do I get one of these box traps. I am on Telus service provider and it is supposed to be free of spam and yet I still get 4 or 5 a day. Kind of annoying. Oh and thanks Raye for what you provide us, we would miss this alot if it was to go away. We do appreciate it.

[/size]Box trapper is part of a server program called C-panel which is part of the server. I don't know of a program for an end user... No matter how good  the trapper is there will always be a few that get through...
