First State Smoker

I've been trying to research this and so far no luck.

I'm traveling up to visit family in Ottawa, Ontario this weekend and want to do some ribs for them. I know I can find them here at Costco or BJ's for about $2.50/lb. Can anyone enlighten me on what I can expect to pay in the great white north? From what I remember, meat prices are generally higher.

I'm contemplating becoming a meat smuggler.  ;D

Well, you need to be more specific...
Baby backs?  If so, regular loin back or real baby back?
If spare ribs, untrimmed? sorta trimmed? STL trimmed?

Not sure about Ottawa, but here on the West Coast, I find that Costco generally has very good to excellent meat for a great price.  Don't know  the cost per pound, but it's about 17-20$ for 2 large racks of bb's.  Way bigger than any other places.

FSS - as you know, i am here in our great nation's capital. at most grocery stores, back ribs can be found on sale for $2.99/lb and side ribs around $1.99/lb. the "regular" prices are usually at least twice that (ie. $5.99/lb for baby backs, $3.99-$4.99/lb for sides). i use a local butcher and pay $5.99/lb for baby backs.

i don't shop at Costco but i know they are normally ~$5/lb and go on sale for $2.50-$3.50/lb.

if you're going to smuggle anything, smuggle some pork butts. i have never seen anything NEAR $0.99/lb which seems like a common deal for our neighbours to the south. you can't find butts at most grocery stores, either. that, and brisket.

I have bought pork back ribs for the last few weeks at 2.99@ lb. Seems good to me and they were fresh not frozen.
If it has eyes and a head,I would probably eat it. Eh
