I work as an auctioneer part time and this week we have an estate sale that includes a Kitchenaid mixer with grinder attachment.

I see that you can get a sausage stuffer attachment as well for these things.  Are they ok to use or are the grinder and stuffer attachments pretty useless?  I was saving for both a grinder and stuffer separate but will go this route if the unit is considered decent.

I could probably get this for 50 bucks or so if the bidding is typical.

If you don't have a good mixer, for $50 that alone is a good buy.

As far as the grinder/stuffer for the KA, the grinder does pretty good on a low volume.

Don't waste your money on the stuffer.

I have a small grinder that I bought from a outdoor retail store that works fine for grinding but I tried stuffing with it and it took me at least 3 times as long with a 10lb batch. I bought a LEM 5# stuffer and boy what a difference, much easier.

I've got the KA stuffer attachment - free to any home - you pay shipping.

Thanks for confirming my initial thoughts.

Will probably try and pick it up anyway just to use as a mixer/food processor.  The wife has been wanting one of these things for years.

It's a great mixer (we have one) , and a decent grinder.

Using _any_ grinder as a stuffer is usually more trouble than it is worth.

You guys saved me money and a headache already. I've been wondering the same thing and I'm setting up to do sausage this winter. Ive got the KA already, had it for years and love it,but I see that the stuffer is a bad item to buy. Thanks for the info.

If you are making occasional batches of 10 pound or less, the grinder attachment may work for you. But as others already stated; don't waste any money on the stuffer.
