Need to get some pork butts done this weekend in my 4 Rack DBS, and using my auber PID.  Looks like there might be some rain in the forcast...has been off and on all week.

Was going to put up one of those 10'X10' Canopies but I know that the rain sometimes doesn't come straight down but to the side a bit.

What is my risk?  Will I ruin the smoker and PID if it gets wet?

they are electronic. Water and electronics have been known to not get along. Sometimes if it just gets wet when there isn't any power, when it drys it will be fine. I think it is a very different story if water gets to the electronics that is powered up.

Just had to ask since these are made to be outside....

If it doesn't stop raining I will string a tarp between the fence and patio table to completely cover the units.  Darn Rain...I really need to get some butts smoked for Sunday.  Should have purchased the suncast storage box...but nowhere to store it.

You got a garage OTB?

You can put your smoker in the garage and leave the overhead door open to let the smoke out.

The garage is where the smoker usually lives when not in use...but was afraid that it would leave everything in the garage smelling smokey if I run it in there...Plus I like the idea of not having it indoors just in case of fire...

Maybe I can get some dryer vent and figure a way to vent it outside the garage door.  I know people have rigged fans and such to draw the smoke.

If you could secure the popup canopy, and then put a couple 'walls' on it with some poly tarps, that would keep it high and dry.

Is this the cabinet folks are using:

I built (well.. acquired, tore apart, cut to size, and reassembled) a cabinet to park my OBS and PID on.

The cabinet is top-heavy, so you'll want to secure it to something.   Mine is screwed to the fence behind it.

I've used my OBS in the driving rain, flying snow, etc.   Just bungee the doors mostly shut to keep the elements out, but let the smoke vent.
