I opened my new OBS yesterday and ran three pucks through it to get the factory odors out of it. The instructions said to put five of the pucks in and run for an hour.  I put three pucks and three puck savers and turned on. In a little while it started smoking so I let it go for over an hour.  When I came back to cut it off all three of the pucks were in the water bowl and none looked like they had been burned very much. Don't they pretty much burn up? Need to figure out what I did wrong before I put a piece of meat on it.

The Bradley is designed not to burn all the way through, this help cut down on the nasty ash taste. If this is what you are seeing on your bucks than its pretty much normal.

Before you start the pucks I like to warm up the smoke generator also while the cabinet is coming up to temp. That will give you the best burn for your first puck and then after.

Would agree with the above statement about preheating the puck burner.

If my burnt pucks looked like the pics posted, I would not be happy.  Mine typically are burnt through.

Oh great now I got a problem  :o Just another thing to add to my list  ::)
Most times the pucks will burn to almost right through but that batch there was with cold weather, in the 20*F range so that could have something to do with it and I just dug those out of the water bowl.
Here is a better picture of a normal burn for me, I think if it goes past this point than you end up with ash or maybe I still have a problem and don't even know it. You ask where the hell is he getting those old pucks from....my fire pit. I burn everything  ;)
