Designated Circuit???

Do I need to put my new Bradley Smoker on a designated circuit???

The BS only has a 500 watt heating element, I don't know what the bisquette burner plate takes for power but I'm sure it's not much.  I run mine off the 110V outlet on my porch, not a designated circut.  I've read that there is a electronic chip borad in the smoke generator, short of that I don't know why you would need a designated/isolated power source.

In my opinion, no, I run mine from a shared circuit and never threw a breaker.

Copper,

Run mine on a 100' 12ga, <font color="red"><u>good quality</u></font id="red"> extension cord. No problems with cord heat or getting the BS up to any temp I want.  It is the only thing on the breaker though. (if that doesn't throw a breaker-I think all will be well)

Gee CB, I never read anything about a dedicated circuit, either missed it, or the units getting shipped within Canada aren't enough to bother giving the proper instruction for[8D]

My 2 cents is no, you do not need a dedicated circuit for the Bradley.  I have mine plugged in on the deck that is either shared with all outside plugs, or with one of the kitchen circuits.  No problems to date[:)]

It's buried in the owner's manual, along with the other 150 other Do's & Don'ts. Far as I know, the manuals for US vs Canadian are identical. No worries, I still find stuff in there I didn't remember reading. There are even a couple of self-contradictions.[:)]

hi - just my 2 cents worth (being Candian cents closer to 1.45 cents)
this info is in the manual on the web site as well as the one I got here in Canada.
 -Under - Basic Safety Precautions (pg2) is says "Use only approved grounded electrical outlet."
 -on Page 3 "How to Assemble the Bradley Smoker®" under the "Set Up Smoker Tower" section it says "Plug the longer power cord from smoker tower into the approved grounded electrical outlet."
 -The only place in mentions "Plug smoker into its own designated
outlet." is in the GUIDELINES for seasoning the smoker, and by outlet they are suggesting in my opion that u just do not plug anything else in this outlet (does not mention "dedicated circut" anywhere in manual that i can find.)  So it is not really a precaution or an instruction but a suggestion (for best results type of thing).
 - I use mine on the deck with a short "approved 3-prong (grounded)
heavy duty extenstion cord" with no problems.
 - as bit of a techy[:o)] i can say the that the fact the bradley has an electonic circut board should not require its own curcit, as the majority of new apliances all have electronics of some kind.

In the Bradley Smoker Owners Manual under the troubleshooting section it reads:

"<b>Bisquette does not burn completely:</b>
Check to see if any electrical equipment
is plugged into the circuit. The smoker
should be plugged into its own dedicated
wall circuit. Check if the burner is free
of residue build up, this can cause the
bisquettes to travel above the burner."

I stand corrected - (I HATE when that happens [xx(][xx(] ) it sure enough does say dedicated circuit. I Have never had issues with the bisquettes (or anything else for that matter)  so I gues thats why i never noticed the trouble shooting section [:I]
The deck outlet that I use shares it circuit with part of the garage and a small addtion (with electrical equipment going)- even with using an  extention cord I have not yet?? had an issue. Looks like is more of a power to burner issue than a breaker issue.

I agree, it could create an issue with not enough power getting to the smoker so that temp or bisquette burning might be compromised. When I first read this thread, that aspect didn't occur to me, only the danger side. Thanks CC.
