Just got a new smoker from the kids for fathers/birthday.  Seasoned it today and I need a easy first recipe to start out on.  Any ideas?

A pork butt is probably the most forgiving.  If you don't get things exactly right it doesn't make much difference.  Plenty of rub recipes in other forum areas on here.

Welcome aboard.   :)

Welcome to the boards, I think I started with chicken thighs for my first smoke. Nice gift.

Welcome!  Great gift!  Just read thru some posts here...you'll find some really great ideas to smoke.  Topics broken into different categories makes it easy.  Depends if you want something in few hours like chicken or pull an all nighter with a butt.

Welcome aboard!!

I'd have to say ribs too -- they are fast and easy if you follow the "3-2-1" type instructions type.

Second I'd do Pork Butt -- easy too -- just much longer!  :)

But whatever you do -- it'll probably turn out great if you read the recipe site(s), etc. !

Smoked almonds or pistachios are quick, easy, and nearly impossible to screw up.

I did chicken for my first smoke. Easy, and you don't need any special seasoning -- just use what you'd use to roast one in the oven.
I just spent $12 K on this Honda Accord! Why can't it tow my boat?!?
