CYM is a little messy to work with, I'm not a fan for the taste of molasses,  so I started using olive oil to coat the butt prior to applying the rub. I then switch to peanut oil. With peanut oil I can taste a hint of that flavor in the pulled pork, and I like it. I ofter use peanut oil on my ribs.
