Is the maverick ET-732 probe/thermocouple compatible with the Auber PID?  I was looking at getting a better thermocouple that has a faster response time than the 5 dollar cheapy that Auber sells.  While shopping on the Omega site, an add popped up with my Maverick ET-732 on sale and sparked the question.  The 6 foot replacement probes on Maverick`s site are 20 bucks, and the probes would be identical for monitoring temps.  Any thoughts?

In all my smokers I use the TC-K3MM from Auber. Here's a link...

It has fast read times because the diameter is only 1/8 inch. You can easily make an "L" bracket to mount it on the wall as well.

The maverick probes are a different animal altogether. I believe the Maverick probes are Thermisters as opposed to a K-type Thermocouple.

Good information Mr Walleye. On the subject of probes, has anyone tried ordering an extra food probe for the Maverick 732 and use 2 food probes instead of 1 oven & 1 food probe? Are the probes interchangable? If not, has anyone tried the ET-7 with 2 food probes? With a PID already in use with a oven probe, wouldn't need one more on Maverick. Thoughts anyone.

yes the probes are interchangeable. At least they work for me that way. In my set up, while the PID controls the temp it is outside in my bradley shelter. The maverick lets me be inside and know what the meat and cabinet are doing. I don't see an advantage to 2 meat probes because I just use it as a guide. When it is close to what  want, then I go check with the thermapen. I do this because sometimes the probe(s) will be in a hot or cold spot so I take multiple readings.

Awesome Mike,
Thanks once again.

Mr Walleye

I do the same as Gus. I use the maverick for a guide as to when I need to pay closer attention. At that point I also use a thermapen.

If you do order additional probes for the Maverick you can get them with a 6 foot wire if need be.
