Bought the digital 6 rack today! Unboxed and seasoning has commenced.

Ive noticed the oven temp is showing as 164F but the temp setting is 150 F that i set it to initially .. i was under the impression it would maintain as close to 150F it could? Or am i reading that wrong..

10-20 degree swings are normal. Much like with your oven. It will not effect making chicken, butts, briskets --most things except you may need tighter control for sausages.

Thanks Gus..

Now next pop quiz:)

I had set the timer for both smoker and oven for 2 hours

with 12 mins left i opened the bradley, no more smoke!, noticed only 3 burnt pucks in the bowl with a burnt sitting on the heat producing no further smoke.. I wouldve expected smoke up until the 2 hours finished also i wouldve expected more than 3 (plus the current one burnt) bricks used?

thoughts?

how many pucks did you put in the chute?  for a 2 hour smoke you  would have needed 6  pucks plus 2 more that push the first 6 onto the puck burner for a total of 8 pucks

teetee

yep i had 8 pucks loaded.. only 3 dropped and the 4th was half cooked at completion

anyone seen this before or know why it happened?

paulsnapp

One of two things happened.  The SG died after a short period of time or time set was less than he thought he programmed in.  If the unit failed to advance a puck, which happens, the one left on the burner would have been a pile of ashes.

but i still had 10 + mins on the SG and the puck was half cooked. strange..

tomorrow will be my first cook (ribs) so ill see what happens and report back

Can't explain it, but if there were pucks in the stack, a puck on the burner and it was not smoking - the heating element was not hot.  If it were mine, I would remove the 8 outboard screws from the base of the SG and would disconnect and reconnect all wire connectors.  One of them could be loose.  This does not void your warranty.  The SG opens up like a "clamshell" if these 8 screws are removed.  You may want to try that.  Or start the unit up and see if the puck burner gets hot.

When I first got my Digital Bradley my puck burner did not heat up, I did what paulsnapp suggested & it started to work and a year later there have been no issues.
