I have the privilege of taking care of his son Taylor, who is almost 18 years old. Taylor is trying to get into West Point Academy.

Wow!

It's really hard to say more. What a beautiful tribute to a great man!

I have a niece who is a medic and did 2 tours in Afghanistan as well.

I hope that he has pleasant memories of his father over this period of remembrance. He is obviously proud of his father.

Personally I have mixed emotions during this period. Some of my fellow soldiers did not come home with me from Viet Nam. One of them from my home town. One day while walking next to each other a 0y trap exploded and he was critically injured while I went unscathed. I have fond memories of our days together and yet a deep sadness at the same time. I think it odd when many people wish others a Happy Memorial weekend. Although there are some happy memories involved, I find it difficult to be happy when remembering our fallen comrades.

Let us all have a toast to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We all appreciate the service many of us gave, but for me Memorial Day is for the fallen.
Life is short. Smile while you still have teeth.

nothing more needs to be said

I think our friend Beefmann said it best.  Just not a whole lot more that need be said.

Simple words can't express the debt of gratitude owed to those folks.
