To all my Comrades in Arms out there, Thank you for your service and have a great day.

I just received this in an email from my uncle who is a retired Army Armor LTC and I liked it so much that I wanted to share it with all of you.

No Sacrifice to Great, No Mission to Difficult, Duty First

As Veterans Day approaches and we again find our nation at war, the burden of which is carried by less than 3 % of the total population, there are many different perceptions of what exactly defines a Veteran.

Some say it is only an individual who served in actual combat.  Others say it is an individual who served only during a time of armed conflict.  And some say simply, it is an individual who served, regardless of when and where, regardless of whether it was for a single tour of duty, or for a full career.

Myself, I'm inclined to go with the third definition, but I prefer to state it another way.  Very simply, "A veteran - retired, active, guard or reserve, or honorably separated service member - is someone who at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The Citizens of the United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life."

That is honor; that is selfless service; that is true citizenship; and that is sacrifice for the greater good in the most profound way that few have had the opportunity to know firsthand, and yet because of the service and sacrifice of the few, many reap the benefit.  And while our founding fathers designed it that way, the taste of freedom will never be quite as sweet as it is to those who have fought for it, or served to defend it.

So to my comrades in Arms, while we share an eternal bond that only we can ever truly understand, once again on the 11th of November I'm proud to say that I treasure my service with those of you I spent time with in uniform, and I respect the service for those who went before, and those who came after me, and I wish you all a Happy Veterans Day.

"I now know why men who have been to war yearn to reunite.  Not to tell stories or look at old pictures.   Not to laugh or weep.  Comrades gather because they long to be with the men who once acted at their best; men who suffered and sacrificed, who were stripped of their humanity.  I did not pick these men.  They were delivered by fate and the military.  But I know them in a way I know no other men.  I have never given anyone such trust.  They were willing to guard something more precious than my life.  They would have carried my reputation, the memory of me.  It was part of the bargain we all made, the reason we were so willing to die for one another.  As long as I have memory, I will think of them all, every day.  I am sure that when I leave this world, my last thought will be of my family and my comrades... Such good men."

I would like to add my thanks to all who have served. We live in the greatest country on earth and I think way to many of us take our freedoms for granted. I know I tend to take ALL my blessings as some sort of right rather than being properly grateful for them. Thanks again vets!!!
