I have a dilemma. I have been making a lot of sausage as of late and was thinking that I would like to have a six rack Bradley in addition to my 4 rack DBS witch has the 900W element Mod and a digiQII controller. However, I came across a 4 rack OBS brand new in the box for $225. My dilemma is should I pull the trigger on the 4 rack do the 900W mod on it and get a Auber PID, or hold out and try and find a used 6 rack? I am really torn. Having two 4 racks would probably solve my space problems, but you would use twice the pucks. I am leaning towards the 2 4 racks but would like some input from you all. Thanks!

I have an "original" OBS with a PID.  No extra element.  My next Bradley with be an OBS with a PID.  I'm happy, happy, happy!

If you are getting the second unit mainly for sausage, then there is probably less of a "need" to add the extra or larger element since you do sausage at a much lower temp 120*- 170*

id  hold out for the 6 rack,,, mainly it would allow you  to do  longer sausages, then  add in the PID and fan to help  to  even  out  box temps and keep the  6 rack only for  sausage making and smoking. or  larger  events, Mostly thew 900 watt element is used for heat recovery over cooking, Like  Gus has  indicated smoking  sausage is done at a  lower  temp hence you  dont  need  the extra  heat from the 900 watt element

Have you been checking craigslist? in the Dallas area there are always numerous Bradley's for sale at good prices for both 4 and 6 racks. I've got an extra smoke generator so I've been looking for a used 4 or 6 rack cabinet to make a dedicated cold smoker out of so I look at craigslist sites within 100 miles of my house all the time.

Have been checking craigslist and haven't seen any other than this new in the box four rack. As far as the bigger sausages go, So far I have not had the need or felt it necessary to make anything bigger than the chubs that hang perfect in four rack. I thought that $225 was a good price for brand new OBS and it comes with a 48 puck variety pack so that makes it about $200. About not doing heater mod. if only doing sausage. I would like to be able to use it for anything, and I like the quicker recovery time with the 900W and I smoke even on the coldest days in Nebraska. No matter what, I will do the heater mod and get another PID. I know it sounds like I have made up my mind, but I'm still on the fence, one leg is over but I am still torn. Just seems to good to pass up. For a little over $400 I can have a second brand new and Bradley with heater Mod and PID.

then go for it. When it comes to things like that, I look at what I want to do, the way I want to do it, if the price is worth it to me ( may or may not be the best deal, but it is worth it to me), then I go for it. Otherwise I find myself stuck in analysis paralysis and get nothing decided.

Go for it!  If you don't like it, I'll take it off your hands. :)

Sounds like you should step on over the fence, show up with cash and see if they'll take less. I never list on CL with my bottom dollar and very few in the Dallas area do, my meat slicer was listed at $175 and I got it for $145 in the end.

"analysis paralysis" I love that phrase! Never heard it before, but it describes a friend of mine to a "t".

Went ahead and bought the four rack for $225. picked up a 900w heater element and ordered an Auber PID. Debating weather I want to add a fan to this one.

Feels good to pull the trigger doesn't it.
