Hey, we got some people coming over for Christmas who really like raw vegetables.  The missus assigned me the task of finding some really good veggie dips.   I might like one spicy, and one not so spicy.  Anybody know of any really good ones?

Hummus is always a pretty rock star dip, but you need to make it from scratch for it to be any good. It's not hard, but it takes some doing. If you're interested, I'll tell you how I make it.

And then there are the world of spiked mayonnaises and sour creams.

Lipton's Onion Soup mix, mixed with sour cream.  Its good its easy and most people like it.  its also very lazy, you might want to do several but its easy, its good and most people like it.

I would make Tzatziki.  In fact I have some going now.  I don't use greek yogurt, just a good quality plain yogurt which I put in a large coffee filter in a sieve and drain the whey off.(in refrigerator).  Half of it I use regular recipe, half I mix crumbled feta in it.  You can find many recipes online for tzatziki. (Not sure of spelling) :-)

Thanks for the responses.  They ranged from the highly practical to the exotic.  I loved the idea of Tzaziki sauce, but not being a fan of cucumbers, I went a different direction.  As for hummus, I've only had the hummus you can buy at the grocery store.  I imagine the homemade version would be a lot better.

I went with a simple Beau Monde dip recipe (3/4 cups mayo, 3/4 cups sour cream, 1 tbsp minced onion, 1 tsp each of dried parsley, dill, and Beau Monde seasoning).

I also went with cream cheese and Picante sauce, which was great on carrots as well as chips.

We also had a fantastic brandy cheesecake dip that was surprisingly popular with the fruit-eating crowd.
