I dont want to Bring down any one during the holiday Season ... Had a long time friend that passed away  over the long Thanksgiving weekend and his memorial was held the following weekend ,,, was asked to put on the event for 150 people having various smoked food,, drinks... finger foods .. salads,, snacks,,, so i spend that week preparing  cooking ,,  did 35 lbs of  pulled pork.. 35 lbs of  pulled beef,... 200 + abt with Anaheim Chiles,,, 16 quarts of my  baked beans,,,

due to the  family's request  for no pictures to be take,, i can not show... the  event was wonderful over all... tears and laughter managed  to be there for all... .. the family was very  very pleased that i  accepted and steped up to host the  event,,, so  much so... they  stopped by today and dropped off this in a  show of appreciation.... i was  shocked and very  happy to  accept the beautiful gift... only thing i could say to them is thank you very  very  much... it  show me that there are people out there that do care very  much and  still show there appreciation on a  huge event like this,,,,just goes to  show that the holiday season is more about  giving and taking the time to be supportive among  family and  friends let alone of giving  one's time during a crises ... being there for the family...

I  know this is a bad time of the year to  loose a  family member and a long time friend... it also shows that there are more friends around that we may  not  even consider a  friend,,, do not let go of them... friends and family are to hard to  come by... love them all...  you may  never know what may happen   that may  surprise you  in other ways...

now for the gift of appreciation,,,,,

are you  ready?

are you  sure?....

positive?.....

ok ok ...

here it is....

Very well written sentiments, I'm glad you were able to give your friend the sendoff he deserved. As for the gift, all I can say is WOW!!!!! that's a nice collection.

Wow. Very well written bitter-sweet story. IMHO this is the right time of year for such a post. Sorry for the loss but I love your viewpoint. Nic collection.

Sorry for your loss. That is an amazing show of appreciation by the family.

I recently lost a friend of nearly 30 years. I would have loved the opportunity to prepare a feast in his honor.
I just spent $12 K on this Honda Accord! Why can't it tow my boat?!?

Thank you all, it is not to often that the show of appreciation is like this over the  loss of a long tome friend and for the  family even happens... people do pass every day,,, just a fact of nature,,, just not in our  lives let alone hosting a large event for the passing,...

loved putting on the event all the  laughter and tears from the  memories over our  friendship... though his  loss  still hurts and he  will be missed,,,,

Condolences for your friend and his family. It is hard losing family or friends as it is but when it's around holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas it does hit a little harder. Bravo on the cook-off/send-off you accomplished! A true friend is there even after the end

So sorry for your loss.  But damn did you ever step up for the send-off, it must have been great (sad but wonderful).  The family's gift is wonderful too.
