More Custom PID's

Here is the PID that I have been using for about a year. It operates flawlessly and free me from adjusting anything. I can leave the smoker alone for hours.

I started a new topic because I do not want to take away any thing from Robs PID. He has done an excellent job of describing the making of a PID

I made a custom sized box with a clear bottom

The PID was bought from Ebay

I used a 20 amp SSR (solid state relay) because I have a secondary heater that was bought from Grainger's

I installed a heat sink matched to the relay that was bought from Grainger's

I have made 4 units and have given one to my grandson's father (he has a Bradley) who is now on his 3rd or 4th tour in Iraq ( pray for all our service men and women!).

Nice setup car54. Thanks for sharing the photos. Can you tell me exactly how and where the heat sink is hooked up? I'm in the dark on all this but am determined to get all my smokers hooked up with these.

Iceman, you can not get a good look at the SSR because the wires are in the way. Because The heat sink is matched to the relay there are mounting holes that attach both units together into one component. I used a heat sink paste between the units to help in transferring the heat.

Like the PID car54. I hope people realize that you can throw these components into almost any enclosure. I'm thinking for my next one to maybe buy a cheap plastic toolbox, and making my cuts into it.

-Plenty of room to work with.
-Easy to open and make changes
-Has a handle
-Rugged
-Store TC, cords inside

Here is the post with some pictures of the one I made it is real similar to the one robs made. I sure like it it seems to hold the temperature within a couple degrees of whe3er it is set once it reaches the set point.
