BigSmoker --raw apple cake

I don't know why it is called raw apple cake. Perhaps because the apple skins are left on. Anyway this cake and sauce as I said, if there is a desert for the God's this has got to be it.

As is the usual case only way I could see this is to go to different browser.  Thought it would be a picture of a cake.  If anyone else out there with same problem here is the recipe:

Raw Apple Cake   

Using 8x10 cake pan

Ingredients:
2 eggs
1/2 cup shortening or butter
2 cups of sugar
2 cups flour
salt to taste
2 tsp. Soda
2 tsp. Cinnamon
4 cups diced apples skin on
1/2 cup black walnuts

Bake at 350 about an hour

Caramel sauce
1 cup brown surgar
1 cup white sugar
1 cup whipping cream
1 cup margarine
2 Tbsp. Flour
2 tsp vanilla

Mix in pan until it boils and boil x 1 minute

I guess you just poor on the topping while cake is still warm?

Thanks for posting it up. I wonder if she said a prayer over it, or is it just as good without the prayer?  [:D] [:D]

Thanks for the recipe.  I do especially love caramel[:p]  

I agree that the type of apple would make a huge difference in taste.  I live close enough to Ellijay, GA.  to get just about any kind of apple known to man when they are in season so...  is it Granny's or "?".

This is true if we are talking about  pies and tarts; however, I used just about every type of apple this out there with the exception of (I don't know how to spell this word) Mac-Intosh.

What I have found that makes the difference is the quality. A firm apple with juices. You know how some apples can feel firm but when you bite into them they are like dry soft sponge...well those don't do too well.

Also I cheat a little and add more nuts. [:D]

Yes the sauce can be served over a hot cake. I generally put my cake in the oven at the start of the meal. At the end of the meal (cake is normally out by then) I make the sauce which does not take much time. Depending upon everyone I will serve the cake as soon as the sauce is done or later. If it is later, after I remove my sauce from the boil, I let is cool some and then place it in a double boiler under a very light steam.  As long as the cake is room temp or better I've never had a problem.

Seldom do I have any left over; however if I do the next morning for breakfast I will slice some butter, place it over the cake, add the sauce and give it 30 seconds, one to two times (a dwell time between cycles) in the Microway. Brew up some coffed with heavy chicory and then call in sick at work~~LOL!!! Oppps crap I work for myself so I cannot get away with that anylonger.

BTW this Caramel sauce will exceed any store bought you've ever tasted. It is so good you will almost want to use it over pancakes, french toast, eggs... well maybe not the eggs...but you all got the idea.

What a great cake.  You were right the turkey(which was very good) fell to the way side once the cake was brought out.  The hot caramel sauce brings the whole thing together.  Thanks for sharing[:D]

First of all I don't have much of a sweet tooth but I made this cake this weekend to go with my first attempt at a prime rib in the BS.

WOW- delish!![:D][:D][:D][:D] It was a big hit! We used McIntosh and it was wonderful.
