Hi Guys, Im new at this so be gentel ,

Question 1)  Can I just go to a Metal shop and make my own Aluminum Bubba Pucks out of stock aluminum bar ?

and

Question 2)  Besides the cost are they any advantage to the 6 rack BDS vs 4Rack BDS

Any operating pro,s or cons,????

Does the 4 rack unit control temp better than the taller 6 rack unit ,

Do you need more Pucks to operate a 6 rack unit ?

Thanks in advance for any advice !

Welcome tvp. Yes Bubba pucks are aluminum, and several members on the forum have made their own. As long as the dimensions are correct, there should be no problem. The 4 and 6 rack both use either 2 or 3 pucks. I use 3. I have the 4 rack, but the only advantage I see with the 6 rack is obviously more cooking space. The only time I have ever had all 4 racks full is when cooking jerky.

Thanks for the reply , This is all new to me so many questions: lol

On the BDS how do you know how much to open the top vent ??

Best rule of thumb is open it enough to prevent smoke from backing up and out the smoke generator unit.  1/4 is mimimum. Full open for high moisture like fowl and drying jerky.

Using 3 Bubba Pucks and adding 20 min. to your smoke time will put the last B-puck on the burner at the end of your smoke time. Extinguishing the last wood puck so the nasties don't come out past the 20 min. burn time. However, many here keep the generator burner going for the full cook time to help keep temperature swings minimal. ;D

You can also make your own if you have some aluminum round stock or a friend that is a machinist.
