I recently had to renew my passport.  Did it at the US embassy in Bern.  It now takes twice as long as it used to for them to process because the state dept. will not allow overseas U.S. consulates/embassies to maintain a stock of the new blank passports for security reasons.  They send all applications to Wash. D.C.  ;D ;D

Then I read this -

Gotta tell ya...I'm ok with anything...like airports...passports...all of it...I think if you're a law abiding citizen...then so be it...what do you have to worry about...nothing? ...makes me feel safe...well SAFER...hope I'm not offending anyone...but...we gotta secure ourselves.

Well, I found two ironies in the article.  First, the state dept. won't allow US consulates and embassies (their own people) to have a stock of blank passports due to security concerns yet the government printing office outsources the printing of these sensitive documents to third world countries who have security problems.  Hmmmm  Second irony is that after 911 when all the finger pointing was going on it came to light that all of the intelligence agencies don't talk to one another which led to the creation of the DHS.  Now it seems that DHS and the state department didn't know that the GPO was outsourcing the printing of these very sensitive documents to very insecure countries.  Hmmmmm.  Time for an adult beverage or three  ;D ;D ;D

I wondered if I was the only one to sit back and say Hmmmmm.  Sometimes I just don't get it ???
